Frequently Asked Questions

EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

NO. They do not. If your eyes hurt after having extensions applied, they were either not applied correctly by a professional, or you may have had an allergic reaction - but that is up to your GP to determine.

What are individual eyelash extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are lightweight, synthetic eyelashes that come in a huge range of lengths, thicknesses, curl styles and colours. They are expertly bonded individually on a ‘lash by lash’ basis to your own natural lashes, creating longer, thicker, fuller lashes that look incredibly natural and are completely comfortable to wear and safe for your natural lashes. When properly applied by a professionally trained lash artist and maintained with regular 2-4 weekly infill’s it is possible to wear eyelash extensions on an ongoing basis. I have plenty of design options tailored to suit your requirements.

How long does the application process take?

Individual eyelash extensions can take from 45min-2 hours. Depending on the look you are after and how many lashes can be applied to you specifically.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

When properly applied by a certified lash technician and carefully looked after, eyelash extensions can remain in place from 3-6 weeks or until your natural lash falls out (lashes grow in cycles of about 60 to 120 days). It is normal to lose up to 5 natural lashes per day!! To keep your lashes looking as fabulous as when they are first applied; regular 2 – 4 weekly infill treatments are necessary as your eyelash extensions will gradually diminish in number due to the natural shedding and replenishing cycle of your own eyelashes.

How do I prepare for my eyelash extensions treatment?

Lash application time can easily be used up by the need to clean eyes in preparation for your treatment – to avoid this please come to your appointment with clean, makeup free eyes. Be prepared to relax for 1-2 hours, some clients like to bring headphones to listen to music while relaxing and some even fall asleep, and wake with beautiful new lash extensions.

What is an 'Infill'?

A few weeks after having a full set of lashes applied, your lashes will start to fall out naturally ready to grow new ones. So when this happens you may start to notice your lash extensions thinning out, this is when you should get an infill. Infill procedure is just applying new eyelash extensions to the new eyelashes that have grown, filling in the gaps.

How do I look after and care for my lashes?

The correct care for your eyelash extensions lashes in the first 48 hours will ensure they are as long-lasting as possible.

For best results avoid swimming, spas, tanning and excessive steam for 48 hours – take care when showering, exercising and opening microwaves, ovens, dishwashers etc.

Following these instructions will allow the adhesive to cure to its fullest strength and will help your eyelash extensions lashes to form the strongest bond possible.

It is important that the eye area and lashes are kept very clean particularly if you are wearing eyelash extensions, failure to do so can result in irritation and possible infection. If you experience any eye irritation please contact your eyelash extension technician immediately.

- Avoid all oil based products near your lashes, as these will weaken the bond of the adhesive.

- Remove eye makeup carefully from the eye area using oil free makeup remover and a cotton tip.

- Groom your lashes every day, especially in the morning, this will help to keep them looking beautiful at all times.

- Treat your lashes gently – no rubbing, pulling, picking or tugging!

- Avoid using waterproof or oil based mascara and Do Not try to curl or tint your lash extensions.

- I recommend using my Black Diamond coating sealant 3-4 times a week to keep your lashes looking like new. (I have this available to purchase )

Can I wear makeup on my lash extensions?

Normal use of eye makeup is fine. However, you should not find it necessary to use mascara on a daily basis, the beauty about eyelash extensions is that you don’t need mascara! :) If you choose to use mascara at any time it is essential you only use a water-based mascara (not water-proof or oil-based) – regular use of mascara may shorten the lifespan of your lash extensions. Care must also be taken when removing makeup not to use any products that are contain oil or glycols – these all weaken the adhesive bond and cause eyelash extensions to fall off prematurely. If you can not remove the makeup out of your extensions properly, this means i will have to do it at your infill appointment, this may result in an extra charge or even having to remove them all and starting again! :(

Do eyelash extensions damage your natural eyelashes?

No. The eyelash extension products I use are completely safe and will not damage your natural lashes when applied. As with any beauty treatment you should go to a professional trained and certified eyelash extension technician, as application by an un certified technician, use of low quality products, or having them applied incorrectly may result in damage to your natural lashes.

Can I have eyelash extensions if I don't have many eyelashes?

Eyelash Extensions can only be applied to natural eyelashes. If you have experienced eyelash loss for any reason, you must wait until your eyelashes have re-grown before having Eyelash Extensions applied. I will explain this more in a full consultation. An excellent option to encourage the growth and healthy condition of your natural eyelashes is using a Lash & Brow Conditioner which works by stimulating the hair follicle and results in longer, thicker, healthier lashes – all the more lashes to extend! (I recommend using Revitalash)

I have sensitive skin and eyes, can I still get eyelash extensions?

If you have sensitivities and are worried about getting lashes, I will do a free trial application of about 8-10 lashes (the same length as your natural lashes so you don’t look silly) after this I will ask you to wait a few days to see how you cope, if everything seems ok we can then go ahead with the full lash application. I also have a sensitive glue I can use (at an extra charge as the glue is more expensive) if the other glues I have dont seem to agree with you.

In saying all this, it is very rare to have a reaction to any of the products I use.

Are there different types of lashes?

Yes. I have eyelash extensions that come in lengths from 8mm up to 15mm, I have different curls, different colours, and different thicknesses. There are so many different looks and designs to create with eyelash extensions, I can make them as natural or as dramatic as you like, everyone is different :)

Should I have a trial set of eyelash extensions done before applying them for an event?

Eyelash Extensions are a favourite for brides especially – long, luscious, perfect lashes with no need for mascara. Eyelash Extensions should be applied two days prior to the wedding day, this ensures that they are looking at their optimum fullness on the big day and a trial set should be applied around one/two months earlier.

I believe that trial sets of eyelash extensions, while not essential, are definitely advisable – for those special occasions I always want to make sure you are perfectly happy.

How do I remove eyelash extensions?

If for any reason you wish to have your eyelash extensions removed, please do not attempt to pull them off yourself—this can damage your natural lashes. Professional removal is quick and inexpensive and protects your natural lashes.
